Crime is running rampant in our neighborhoods. The mayor, councilmen, city officials, and community leaders are frantically trying to find a "fix-all" solution. There is not enough money, social programs, etc. in the world that can resolve the crime problem. The solution can only be found in the Word of God. "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. You are the light of the world." (Matthew 5:13,14, NIV) The community can only be saved by Christians. But if we Christians have lost our saltiness and our lights are too dim to see, then we become a part of the problem rather than the solution.
You may say, "It's not my problem." You may be right. We don't make it a part of our business until it's our daughter who has been violently raped or our son who has been shot down like an animal. It's not our business until a relative has been robbed and physically harmed at the same time. Darkness is prevalent in our community because of indifference and apathy. You may think that you are safe, but crime and violence is lurking around every corner. Instead of saying that there's no hope and putting a shade over your Christian light, let the light shine brighter than ever and pray. There is always hope. "If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14) We can make the difference.
That the next generation my know God…
