Protect Your Soul from Sin by Reading God’s Word in 2010

Introduction

We all eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner or our bodies will grow weak and tired.
When we miss one of these meals, we let someone know that we are hungry.
Sometimes we get angry when we don’t get food in time. Sometimes we get very irritated. Sometimes when we are weak, diseases and viruses attack our bodies and make us sick. Food for our physical bodies is very important to us.

We also have inside of us a soul that will one day spend forever with God. Our souls need meals each day just like our physical bodies.

Explanation

When we become a Christian, our souls are born again and become babies in God’s family. God gives us instructions on what to do as babies in God’s family. 1 Peter 2:2 says, “Like babies that were just born, you should long for the pure milk of God’s word. It will help you grow up as believers.”

Just as a newborn physical baby needs milk, so does a newborn spiritual baby. If a newborn baby is not fed when she is hungry, she will scream and cry until her mom or dad feeds her. If our souls are not fed the Word of God, they will scream and cry until they are fed. We call these screams and cries SIN.

But we don’t stay physically babies forever. God does not want our souls to stay babies either. We can grow stronger by feeding our hungry souls more of God’s Word and “study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Application

Why is it important to feed our souls? Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden Your word in my heart so that I won’t sin against You.”

If we don’t feed our souls God’s Word, we will not know what makes Him happy and what makes Him sad. We will not know how much He truly loves us and wants us to have the best Christian life ever.

Conclusion

There are 1440 minutes in a day, can we take just one of those minutes and feed our souls by reading the scripture. Encourage your children to do the same or do it together. Protect your soul from sin by reading God’s Word in 2010.

That the next generation will know God...
