How would you feel if you found out that someone had exposed your child to sexual molestation? What would you want to do to that person? The fact is that Christian or non-Christian, you would want to take the life of the person who subjected your child to such. What if you found out it has been done over and over again right under your nose? An uncontrollable rage would probably overtake you and somebody would pay dearly. It is interesting that we feel so passionate about such things when it comes to our children’s bodies. But daily we welcome molesters and pedophiles into our living rooms and dens and allow them to have a field day with our children’s souls and invite them to return the next day.
Molestation is the act of subjecting someone to unwanted or improper sexual advances or activity. Molestation of the child’s soul happens in different ways. We as parents may not be guilty of molesting our children’s souls but we allow tools like the TV, music, and internet to do so. When we allow our children to sit back and enjoy sitcoms that condone homosexuality, pre-marital sex, dirty jokes, and the like, we are allowing our children’s souls to be violated by a stranger. When we neglect to supervise the internet or limit access to certain types of sites, we open the door for our children’s souls to be molested by a stranger. When we don’t take the time to listen to the lyrics of the music our children enjoy, we subject our children’s souls to improper sexual activity. When we allow our children to have a TV with cable or satellite hook-up or a computer with internet access in the privacy of their bedrooms, we open the door for a pedophile to come in and molest the soul of our children. We are vigilant when it comes to the safety of our children’s physical body and that is good. But what about their souls?
You may say, “I don’t want my child to live a sheltered life.” If we allow the devil to freely use these tools to harm our children’s hearts, souls, minds, and spirits, there will come a day when our children will make a mockery of Christianity and spit in God’s face. That’s spiritual death. Just like if you ignore the fact that your child is physically being sexually abused that can lead to physical death by suicide, so can ignoring the fact that our children are spiritually molested lead to spiritual death. Both are bad but eternal damnation is worse. Let’s own up to our responsibility as protectors of our children’s minds, bodies and souls.
