As we come to the close of a year, we all reflect on the past year and list all our accomplishments as well as our failures. It’s interesting that even though we may have failed in accomplishing a particular goal early in the year, we did not get back up and try again. When we got off track with our diet and exercise, we threw in the towel and are 3 times worse off than we would have been had we tried to get back on track. We started out this year being patient and understanding with our children. Then our children did something foolish and we went off. We’ve been going off on our children since then. And the list goes on and on. We’ve decided that there was no use in getting back on track. We’ve made plans to make certain things a part of our New Year’s resolution.
Why do we wait? The Lord says, “Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15,16) Evil does not take a day off. It can steal your health. It can steal your children. It can destroy your marriage. I can ruin your finances. The longer we wait, the more foothold we give the devil. “The thief comes but to steal, kill, and destroy.” Stop putting off for tomorrow what you can start or start over today. Your child might be one step from ruining his life and bringing heartache to the family. Your marriage might be one step from the divorce court. You might be one step from being diabetic or forming some heart disease. You might be one step from being broke and on the streets. Don’t allow Satan to deceive you. He is a liar and the father of all lies. Everything is not alright and things definitely won’t get right while you wait.
Let’s not wait. Let’s pick up the pieces and be the models our children need so when they face failure, they don’t stay down.
That the next generation will know God...
